Description
One of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Shirakawago. Known as an area that has one of the most heavy snowfalls in the world, this moutain village is famous for its traditional thatched houses - a type of rustic architecture known as gassho-zukuri.
These A-framed traditional thatched houses were designed to combat and withstand the harsh heavy snowfalls.
This photo was taken at Ogimachi Castle Observation Deck, Shirakawa-mura, Gifu prefecture.
Usually it would be the final area you reach upon entering Shirakawago but my friend's family who knows the area very well and has given many tours, drove me around the village to the back first. Saying that it has the prettiest view and the prefect place for a impacting first impression; literally "This is the world you're about to enter!!!"
She then took as back around the village to the enterance side where we would get off and cross a bridge to enter Shirakawago.

This place reminds me of Hinamizawa from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni!
